Steve Kuzma, of Ventnor, the featured artist for the June 28 art show and sale in Avalon, is providing one of his paintings as a door prize this year to benefit the Avalon Performing Arts Council. His piece, ‘Marathon Runner,’ right, probably will be displayed at the show.

AVALON - The Avalon Performing Arts Council will hold its annual art show and sale from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, June 28, at Avalon Community Hall, and the council is putting out a call for more artists to join the show.

This year's featured artist is Steve Kuzma, of Ventnor, who won best of show last year. One of his paintings will be the door prize this year to benefit the council, a nonprofit organization founded by local residents seven years ago. The organization's goal is to bring all types of cultural events to Avalon, including concerts and summer children's programs at Avalon Elementary School.

"The goal is always to get as many people as possible to the show," council board member Donna Rothman said.

Categories for the show include oil/acrylic, watercolor, works on paper and photography. There are four awards for each category and a Best in Show award that carries a cash prize of $500. First-place awards are $250, second place are $150, third are $100 and fourth $75.

Kuzma said the Avalon show is one of his favorites.

"I enjoy doing the show at Avalon because of the ease of setting up the art and the fellowship of the volunteers working," Kuzma said. "I look forward to this show at such a beautiful location. Avalon has a unique beauty for me as an artist."

Money for the prizes comes from the artist's fee to enter the show and other events APAC sponsors throughout the year. Funds also come from Friends of APAC, which helps the council continue its mission.
