CASA volunteers complete training

Court Appointed Special Advocates, or CASA, recently completed its spring 2009 training with 21 volunteer advocate trainees.

They completed 30 hours of training and will join more than 125 community members advocating in court for children in the foster care system.

The new volunteers are Nancy Andrews, Corbin City; Susan Feenan, Ocean City; Terry Andros and Patricia Holloman, Atlantic City; Crystal Harper, Middle Township; Shantae Barnes, Absecon; Robert Malkiewicz, Dennis Township; Tanoa Bettis, Theresa Bongiovanni and Mary Jane Mitchell, Mays Landing; Andrea Olenik-Hipkins, Upper Township; Ann Walker, Lower Township; Michael Edelman, Ventnor; Sandra Glass, William Glass and Lizette Madera, Somers Point; Debra Greenberg and Joyce Hall, Brigantine; John Oelkers, Longport; Anne Slota, Northfield; Robin Tolg, Egg Harbor Township.

Parrots donate

Members of the Jersey Shore Parrot Head Club of Atlantic and Cape May counties presented a $2,500 check to the Cape May County Volunteers in Medicine and also $2,500 to the Brendan Borek High Tides Memorial Fund. The club has donated more than $60,000 to local charities in the last 10 years.

Auxiliary donates

At their June auxiliary board meeting, members of the Cape Regional Medical Center Auxiliary donated $7,095 to Cape Regional Medical Center. The funds are earmarked for the purchase of a new television with a DVD and VCR and Apnea Monitor with pulse oximetry for the pediatric unit at the hospital, among other items.
