Caring for Kids seeks community partners

Caring for Kids is looking for community partners who are interested in assisting families with gifts or food for the holidays. Working with various sources, the Caring for Kids Family to Family program will match families from the county with partnered individuals or groups.

A list of family needs and wishes will be provided to those helping in the project. Assistance is requested in purchasing and wrapping needed items for each matched child and family For more information, call 889-8100 or 408-5220.

Historical society announces awards

The Cape May County Historical and Genealogical Society has announced the winners of its heritage awards for 2009. They are:

Lifetime Achievement Award, Dr. Michael Zuckerman of the Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts for his directorship in restoring and preserving the Emlen Physick Estate, Cape May Lighthouse and the World War II lookout tower at Cape May Point.

Heritage Award for Preservation, Stephen Murray for his work on the restoration and preservation of the Hereford Inlet Lighthouse and gardens.

Legacy Award, Cape May County Freeholders Department of Facilities and Services for ongoing support and dedication to the preservation of historic structures.

Friend of History Award, Robert Elwell for his efforts to educate the community on the history of Cape May County.

Young Historian Award, Alex Duryee for his dedication to researching, documenting and preserving Cape May County history.

The awards will be presented Thursday, Dec. 3 at Menz's Restaurant in Rio Grande. Reservations can be made by calling the Museum at 465-2535. The public is invited to attend.
