MIDDLE TOWNSHIP - Less than two days after a car smashed through her Rio Grande hair salon, Kathy Janicki was back in business with the help of some fellow beauty parlor operators.

The Hairport on Route 47 is closed, and a big sheet of plywood is covering the hole made by a Lincoln Town Car that drove through the store Tuesday afternoon.

But three local salons allowed Janicki and her employees to use chairs at their establishments.

Lisa Renee's Hair Styling, Terry's Hair Salon and 9 Salon are each accommodating some of Hairport's displaced hairdressers, Janicki said.

"This is just a miracle. We're all here within a jump distance from our salon," she said.

"We're human beings, period. It's that simple for me," said Irene Lapinski, owner of Terry's Hair Salon. "You do what you got to do. It was nice that we can."

Janicki met with her employees at her home on Wednesday - the only day the business was closed - to go over their game plan and to reschedule appointments, she said.

Meanwhile, she hopes her shop can reopen within a month.

"We are a family over there, and when things happen we just all pull tighter," Janicki said. "We cry, scream, holler and brush ourselves off. … Even our dear wonderful mailman found us, and he's bringing us our mail."

The freak accident occurred shortly after 4 p.m. Tuesday, when a driver pulling into a parking lot lost control of his vehicle, hopped a curb and crashed through the Hairport.

Five people were taken to Cape Regional Medical Center with minor injuries, police said.

The accident is under investigation.

Janicki said that, given the nature of the accident, it was extremely fortunate that the injuries were not worse.

"Nobody had any serious injures. We are blessed," she said. "We have been blessed by God."
