CAPE MAY COURT HOUSE - Alberto Martinez, charged with the 2010 murder of Vincent DeSario, is in court today for a competency hearing.

DeSario died on May 24, 2010, days after Martinez allegedly hit DeSario in the head with a baseball bat.

DeSario, 19, was staying in Wildwood that month to compete at a community college golf tournament at the Cape May National Golf Club.

He and his friends were on a Wildwood street when Martinez, apparently believing the group was laughing at him, struck DeSario, authorities allege.

Dr. Bonard Moise testified today that Martinez, who is being treated for schizophrenia, is competent to stand trial.
