WILDWOOD - Fans can get tickets starting today for a free beach concert Aug. 24 in Wildwood.
The concert on the city's expansive strand at Schellenger Avenue will include Fuel, Hoobastank, Lit, Alien Ant Farm and a special guest not yet announced.
Tickets are available online at www.ticketfly.com.
The concert comes a year after country start Kenny Chesney's free beach concert at the same spot drew an estimated 25,000 concertgoers to Wildwood.
That concert, organizers and city officials said, demonstrated how the city could put its beach to work.
The Summer Slam Sports & Music Festival is being supported in part by the Philadelphia Soul arena football team, which will hold a flag football competition at the same time as the concert on as many as eight fields.
Bob Maschio, owner of Coastal Broadcasting Systems, said at a press conference that the family-oriented event, billed as WJSE Summer Beach Concert, was being held in part "to keep this momentum going" after last year's Chesney concert.
The concert is free, but, like Chesney's appearance, tickets are required. Maschio said the plan is to distribute 10,000 to 15,000 tickets starting today.
Organizers said the concert will go on rain or shine. Audience members will not be permitted to bring in beach chairs for the event.
