Middle Township Police have charged a Monroe Township, Gloucester County man with DWI, reckless driving and failure to maintain lane after allegedly driving headon into another car on Route 47 and killing its Lower Township driver.

Police have said Robert Demarco, 29, of Williamstown, was driving north on the highway around 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 7, and veered into the southbound lane where he hit a car driven by Robert Pitts, Jr., 65, of Villas.

Cape May Court House and Goshen fire companies extricated Pitts from his vehicle and medics transported him to the AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, City Campus. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office and Middle Township detectives investigated the case.
