MIDDLE TOWNSHIP — A motorcycle crash Friday in Rio Grande led to a second crash involving a police vehicle, police said.
Miguel Guzman Jr., 54, of Vineland, was riding a motorcycle south on Route 47 about 6:40 p.m. Friday when Martin Mahon, 54, of Hammonton, changed lanes, police said. Guzman was unable to stop, so the two collided, police said.
Guzman was seriously hurt when he was thrown from his motorcycle, police said. He was airlifted to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center. Mahon was ticketed.
While the officers were investigating that crash scene, Lawrence Gallo, 34, of North Wildwood, failed to move to the right and rear-ended the patrol vehicle in the northbound lane with its flashing lights on.
The officer in the patrol vehicle was taken to Cape Regional Medical Center with back and neck pain.
Gallo was charged with driving under the influence.
