OCEAN CITY — The New Jersey Sea Grant Consortium will present this year’s winner of its annual New Jersey’s Best Beach contest Thursday at the Ocean City Music Pier.
For the last three years, Ocean City has reigned as the champion of the contest. Winners from each coastal county will also be honored.
The public poll was open for voting from May to June and had over 7,000 participants this year.
The ceremony will take place 11 a.m.
Originally titled New Jersey’s Top Ten Beaches, the annual public poll began in 2008 to encourage stewardship and pride for New Jersey’s beaches.
In 2013, after Hurricane Sandy devastated the Jersey Shore the previous year, the Sea Grant Consortium changed its format to honor beach images and memories instead of focus on rivalries. The contest returned in 2014 and in 2016, the title was changed to add more variety for voters.
