Two months ago: Sounds of music flowing through Dante Hall again
Dante Hall, now backed by Richard Stockton College, is drawing 50 to 75 occupancy for many of its shows said the director of the hall, Alex Marino.
“We're slowly building that momentum,” he said. “I think the numbers are what we expected, with minimal advertising, with minimal marketing, with a lot of word of mouth.”
Marino, who is also the director of Stockton's Carnegie Library Center, said that some of the best events were the Ruth Wyand show, which drew 120 people, and The Miss Atlantic City Pageant, which drew over 150.
He is in the process of booking acts that successfully performed at Dante Hall prior to its closing in 2009, he said.
“When we can actually put a season together and market the season in terms of ticket sales, then we're going to go out and do a broader spectrum of advertising,” Marino said. “Through the typical means, but also through social media.”
10 months ago: Eagles Nest Airport to put plans on display
Eagles Nest Airport, in Eagleswood Township, added a 6,000 gallon aviation fuel tank Tuesday. Airport owner, Peter Weidhorn , said he’s been working for 3½ years to get a fuel tank.
“It's a really special day, to see the fuel tank sitting there,” he said. “And now, in the next week and a half, we'll get it wired up, and approved, and the next thing you know, we'll get a load of fuel, and start working with it.”
Currently, there are four airplanes based at the airport, but Weidhorn said that the addition of the fuel tank will make it more viable for other pilots.
According to Weidhorn, the airport has received approval to build 15 new hangars. Construction will begin in the next 30 days and conclude in 60 days, he said.
Three months ago: Ocean City woman will fight again for electric bike.
Denise Baj , of Ocean City, who received nine tickets for riding an electric bike, said that all but one of her tickets were dropped last month.
“I went to court and I had to plea,” she said. “They dropped every ticket except for the ‘no moped license.’”
Baj said she owes $12 for that remaining ticket. She said that due to a ruling by the Motor Vehicle Commission last month, the bike must be registered as a moped.
MVC spokeswoman Elyse Coffey said that the commission sent an inspection professional to Baj’s house to make the ruling.
“We made an official determination, back in May, that her, whatever she called it, is a motorized bicycle or moped,” Coffey said. “And therefore, it must be titled, registered, insured and she needs to have a valid license to operate it.”
Baj said she is filing for bankruptcy to pay the surcharges from a drunken-driving charge before paying to register the bike. In the meantime, she is without consistent transportation.
“I have no way to get shopping,” she said. “So here I am, a disabled 52-year-old woman. I have no electric bike to go shopping. I have to pay for cabs, and schedule a ride, for a shopping trip.”
