An 8-month-old reportedly drowned in a bathtub in his Bridgeton apartment Wednesday morning, according to Bridgeton police.

Police and rescue personnel responded to Villas apartment and found the child’s 21-year-old mother and office staff trying to revive the child. The child was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.

“It appears at this time the child was left unattended in the bathtub for a certain period of time with the water running,” Capt. Michael Gaimari said in a release. “The entire incident is still under investigation by our Criminal Investigation Bureau, the prosecutor’s office and the New Jersey Department of Youth and Family Services.”

Aside from the 8-month-old, two other children, ages 2 and 3, were also present, according to police.

Bridgeton police and Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office are investigating the incident. No criminal charges have been filed.
