A Millville woman was charged Monday with the attempted murder of a Middle Township man, the Cape May County Prosecutor's Office said.

Michelle Heath was arrested Sunday after Middle Township police were called to an incident on Shunpike Road, the Prosecutor's Office said in a statement.

A man, whose name was not released, said he was in an argument with Heath when she pulled two knives and stabbed him several times in the abdomen, the Prosecutor's Office said. The man was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, where he was listed in stable condition.

Heath was arrested at the scene and charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a weapon, the office said.

If convicted of attempted murder, Heath would face 10 to 20 years in prison, Cape May County Prosecutor Robert Taylor said. The second degree crime of aggravated assault carries with it a five- to 10-year term, with as many as 18 months for each of the lesser charges.

Heath was being held Monday in the Cape May County jail on $500,000 bail.
