VINELAND – City police have charged a local man in connection with the June 25 knifepoint robbery of a drug store cashier.

Anthony Santangelo, 24, of the 6100 block of Mays Landing Road, was already lodged in the Cumberland County jail in Bridgeton for another incident when city police identified him as the alleged robber.

The robbery occurred at the Walgreens in the 1000 block of North Main Road.

City police said they used surveillance footage from the store and other nearby businesses to help find Santangelo’s possible residence. A subsequent search of his belongings revealed clothing that matched the clothing worn by the robbery suspect, they said.

Santangelo is charged with robbery, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. Bail for the incident was set at $250,000 cash.
