A Vineland man died of stab wounds Monday, police said, and a suspect is in custody.
At about 2:25 pm, police said in a statement, officers were dispatched to the C & D Garden Apartments at the 700 block of Humbert Street for a report of a man who appeared to have been assaulted and who suffered a serious cut wound to his hand.
In the backyard, a man was found on the ground with a serious stab wound to his chest, police said.
Vineland Police, Vineland EMS, and several bystanders attempted to assist the victim, but he was pronounced deceased at Inspira Hospital.
The victim was identified as Johnnie R. Malloy, 31, from the 200 block North East Avenue.
A suspect was identified shortly afterward and an arrest was made, but no further information was released Monday night.
