President Barack Obama will visit New Jersey this month for a campaign rally with Gov. Jon S. Corzine, the latest in a series of recent visits by top administration staffers designed to bolster the lackluster ratings of the only Democratic governor up for re-election this year.
The rally is scheduled for noon July 16 on the Voorhees Mall at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey in New Brunswick.

In a Wednesday morning letter to supporters, the Corzine campaign wrote:
"President Obama isn't just a close friend of mine; he's a great friend to our state. After eight long years, we finally have a partner in Washington who shares our values and vision for a more progressive New Jersey.
"Together, we are creating green jobs, providing universal access to healthcare for kids, protecting the most vulnerable among us and ensuring all our children have access to a quality education - regardless of where they live.
"We are doing all of this despite a challenging worldwide economic crisis, and I'm proud of the great progress that Barack Obama and I have already have made."
The announcement came as the latest poll shows Corzine trailing Republican Chris Christie by 10 percentage points among registered voters. The Fairleigh Dickinson Public Mind Poll released Wednesday shows that 61 percent of the state approve of Obama, slightly less than before.
But it is some 30 points higher than Corzine's approval rating. The poll found just 31 percent of the state held somewhat or strongly favorable views of the governor, versus 54 percent who held somewhat or strongly unfavorable views of Corzine.
By comparison, 34 percent had somewhat or strongly favorable views of Christie, while 25 percent had somewhat or strongly unfavorable views of the former U.S. attorney for New Jersey.
The poll also shows that a remarkable 66 percent of state residents say New Jersey is headed in the wrong direction, up from earlier months, and respondents gave the governor lower marks on the job than before. Just 26 percent thought he was doing a good or excellent job, while 39 percent said he was doing just fair and 31 percent said poor.
The poll of 803 randomly selected statewide registered voters was conducted June 22 through June 29, 2009. The margin of error is plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.
