NJ Transit officials identified the man killed by a train Monday afternoon while he was walking on the track.

The accident happened at about 4:30 p.m., just east of the Lindenwold station, shutting down NJ Transit's Atlantic City Rail Line for nearly three hours.

The train bound to Philadelphia from Atlantic City struck the victim on a section of the track where people are not authorized to walk, NJ Transit officials said.

Officials identified that man Tuesday as Steven Carroll, 31, of Pitman, Gloucester County.

Service on the Atlantic City line was suspended while the scene was investigated and cleared. The trains began running again at about 7:15 p.m.
