Jobless checks: Voting 403-12, members sent President Barack Obama a bill providing 20 more weeks of jobless checks for those losing current allotments in states with at least 8.5 percent unemployment. A yes vote was to pass a bill (HR 3548) that also provides 14 more weeks in the other states.

Federal Reserve: Members defeated, 171-253, a Republican bid to allow the Federal Reserve to veto the Dec. 1 deadline in HR 3639 (above) and keep Feb. 22, 2010, as the date for starting credit card reforms. The Fed oversees credit cards under terms set by Congress. A yes vote backed the bid.

Chemical plant security: Members passed, 230-193, a bill to permanently extend chemical plant security rules that are set to expire next October and broaden those rules to also cover sewage and drinking-water plants. A yes vote was to pass HR 2868 over arguments it was being unduly rushed.

Israel, United Nations: Members denounced 344-36 a United Nations charge that Israel committed war crimes by killing many civilians during war in Gaza last winter. The report to the U.N. Human Rights Council also charges Hamas with war crimes. A yes vote backed H Res 867.

Justice Department, Commerce, NASA budgets: Voting 71-28, senators sent to conference with the House a bill (HR 2847) appropriating about $64 billion for the fiscal 2010 budgets of the Justice and Commerce departments, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration and several other agencies.

9/11 trials: Senators tabled, 54-45, an amendment to HR 2847 (above) to bar the prosecution of 9/11 terror suspects in U.S. civilian courts. Sponsors said they should be tried instead before military commissions. A yes vote was to kill the measure to keep all prosecutorial options open.
