LONG BEACH TOWNSHIP - A morning house fire damaged a home in the Beach Haven Crest section of the township.
Six local fire companies responded to the house fire, which happened at 9 East 83rd Street.
Emergency vehicles from as far away as Stafford Township responded to the call and crowded the narrow oceanside street this morning. Police had the area cordoned off as curious vacationers heading to the beach and breakfast tried to get a look at the commotion.
Township Police Chief Michael Bradley said the call for the fire came in at 8:30 a.m. today. Beach Haven Fire Chief Matt Letts said the fire was extinguished at about 9:20 a.m.
Authorities said the fire was contained inside the home and no flames were visible outside the home. Bradley said a large amount of smoke could be seen billowing from the home.
Bradley said the oceanside home suffered extensive interior damage. No other homes in the immediate area were damaged.
The cause of the fire has not been determined and authorities from the Ocean County Fire Marshal's Office and Ocean County Prosecutor's Office are investigating, Bradley said.
