LONG BEACH TOWNSHIP - The Long Beach Township Police Department is in the process of installing multiway stop signs at four intersections in Long Beach Township to help control vehicle and pedestrian conflicts where pedestrian volumes are high.

The addition of these traffic control measures comes after a traffic study was completed by Traffic Safety Officer Lt. Paul Vereb. The traffic control measures follow guidelines provided by state Department of Transportation and approved by Frank Little, the township engineer.

The following locations will have new multiway stop signs:

n 68th Street and Ocean Boulevard: Three-way stop sign;

n East MacEvoy (121st Street) and Beach Avenue: Three-way stop sign;

n Waverly Avenue and West 18th Street: Four-way stop sign;

n West 59th Street and Bayview Avenue: Four-way stop sign.

In addition to the stop signs, the street pavement will be marked with stop lines and crosswalks. Police are encouraging motorists to be aware of these new traffic controls and to be alert for pedestrian and bicyclists. Police will be monitoring the intersections for additional traffic safety.

Ocean Boulevard will be restriped from 31st Street in Brant Beach through 82nd Street in Beach Haven Crest to increase traffic calming on the roadway. On Waverly Avenue in North Beach Haven, no-passing lines will be painted on the roadway as well.
