TOMS RIVER - A Stafford Township man has been indicted on charges of endangering the welfare of a child after his 2-year-old son ingested cocaine in February. James E. Gordan also is charged with two counts of possession of a controlled dangerous substance, Ocean County Assistant Prosecutor Laura Pierro said. Pierro said Gordan faces five to 10 years for the second-degree child endangerment charge.

Pierro said the boy remains in the custody of his family while Gordan remains in the Ocean County Jail in Toms River.

In February, the boy was taken to Jersey Shore Medical Center in Red Bank, Monmouth County, after he "somehow ingested an unknown amount of cocaine while under the care and custody of his father," authorities said. Police said the boy was first taken to Southern Ocean County Hospital by family members after he was seen "shaking and foaming at the mouth." The boy was stabilized and treated for cocaine ingestion at Jersey Shore Medical Center.

Police arrested Gordon on an outstanding child support warrant at his Rudder Avenue home. The home was searched and police said cocaine, heroin and marijuana were found inside.
