Gov. Chris Christie announced today announced that 280 troopers from various states throughout the country will assist New Jersey law enforcement with the ongoing security and recovery operations in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.

These deployments are being made under the provisions of the Emergency Management Assistance Compact (EMAC) mutual aid agreement between the states.

Those who arrive will begin helping local, county, and state law enforcement starting Monday. The troopers will report to the Joint Base at McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst for a swearing-in ceremony with New Jersey Attorney General Jeffrey S. Chiesa.

Their assignments will include security at checkpoints and patrols in Monmouth County from the Bayshore area to Brielle Borough, and in Ocean County on the barrier islands from Point Pleasant Beach to Long Beach Island.
