The Country Living Fair that was scheduled for Oct. 16 at  the Historic Batsto Village has been canceled due to flooding damage, organizers announced Sunday.

Closed roadways and flood damage due to Hurricane Irene have left the destination with only one main entrance and exit, which organizers believe cannot safely handle the expected crowd of 45,000. The event was sponsored by the Batsto Citizens Committee.

“We have much concern for limited access for emergency vehicles. We were left with little choice but to cancel,” committee member Linda Stanton wrote in an email. “Next year, the event will fulfill our mission to its utmost as we will have to make up for two years of fundraising to meet this commitment. Please save the third Sunday in October of 2012 to help us support and raise money for necessary repairs and renovations.”
