Members of the Hammonton Police Department located a knife Monday in the front yard of a Hammonton home, Atlantic County Prosecutor Ted Housel announced in a press release.

The weapon - which was located on 12th Street - was collected by police and given to the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office Major Crimes Unit for testing.

Housel said the weapon has not been identified as the knife used to kill Ryan Patterson, 29, or his mother, Diana Patterson, 64, last week in their Madison Avenue home. However, the knife has been submitted for scientific testing.

The Pattersons were found dead in the home Thursday morning by police. Autopsy results determine both died from multiple stab and slash wounds. Ryan Patterson suffered from more than 20 wounds and Diana Patterson sustained more than 10, medical examiners said.
