TOMS RIVER — The victim of a Monday shooting at the Hampton Garden Apartments has been identified and his death has been ruled a homicide, Ocean County Prosecutor Joseph D. Coronato announced Wednesday.

Following an autopsy by the Ocean County medical examiner and notification of next of kin, the victim was identified as 30-year-old Steven E. Stallworth, of Brick.

At 9:20 p.m. Monday, Toms River police and emergency medical services responded to a 911 call at the apartment complex on James Street. Authorities found Stallworth unresponsive, suffering from a single gunshot wound. At 10:34 p.m., Stallworth was pronounced dead at the scene.
