In schools
Wednesday is Veteran's Day, and while some schools still close, many instead choose to celebrate with in-school events that honor local veterans and remind students that history is about people and not dates in books. Some school events are also open to the public.
In theaters
Are you ready for the apocolypse? You had better be. The disaster flick "2012" hits theaters Friday, sort of the unofficial kick-off of the end-of-the-world watch associated with the supposed prediction of doom by the Mayan calendar. Looking for something lighter? George Clooney and Meryl Streep add their voices to the animated adaptation of Roald Dahl's "Fantastic Mr. Fox."
In Atlantic City
Long live rock! Roger Daltrey takes a break from The Who to perform a two-night stand at Borgata Friday and Saturday. Tickets are $95 and $125. The Eagles' Don Henley also does a solo turn when he performs Saturday at Caesars. Tickets are $95, $125 and $150.
On TV
It's 40 years old but still manages to seem fresh - this week "Sesame Street" celebrates four decades on the air. Look for the season opener on Monday with Big Bird contemplating moving on to another locale. Also look for the DVD "Sesame Street: 40 Years of Sunny Days" to hit stores Tuesday.
DVD alert
It was one of the best reviewed films of the year, and now Pixar's "Up" is coming to DVD on Tuesday.
New CDs
A homegrown favorite returns to record racks as New Jersey's Bon Jovi releases "Circle" on Tuesday.
