Atlantic City played prominent role in birth of commercial aviation

Aviation Bader Field

Eastern Air Transportation, the nation's first airline, landed a 20-passenger airplane at Bader Field in the late 1920s. The man near the center of the picture who is holding a hat next to his chest is Eddie Rickenbacker, World War I flying ace and later president of Eastern Air Lines. On his left is Gene Tunney, a former heavyweight boxing champion. The man nearest him, on his left and with a face partially obscured, is Clarence Chamberlain, the second man to cross the Atlantic Ocean nonstop. On his left is Charles Lindbergh, the first man to cross the Atlantic nonstop. Seventh from right is former Mayor Harry Bacharach of Atlantic City, and to his left is Amelia Earhart, famed aviatrix.
