A fire that began with an outdoor grill extensively damaged a home in Hamilton Township, police said.

The blaze was reported shortly after 4:30 a.m., when firefighters responded to the home on Chancellor Park Drive, police said. The home had been evacuated by owner Jeffrey Perkins, his wife and four children.

The fire was under control within 30 minutes, police said. Two minor injuries were reported at the scene.

The Mays Landing Fire Company was assisted by the Cologne and Laureldale fire companies and Cardiff Fire Company’s Rapid Intervention Team.

The residence sustained extensive fire and water damage, and both residences on either side of the fire sustained moderate exterior damage.

The homeowners are staying with family in the area, police said.
