UPPER TOWNSHIP – Tuckahoe Road was reopened hours after being blocked by a derailed coal train heading to the B.L. England Generating Station.
State Police Sgt. Jeff Lemoine said three engines were pulling 88 hopper cars filled with coal to the power plant in Beesleys Point. The lead engine of the Conrail train went off the rails at about 2:15 p.m. Saturday.
Crews eventually decided to separate the derailed engine from the rest of the train, backing the rest of the train down the line, and clearing the road.
No one was injured, Lemoine said, and there was minor damage to the rail line.
The engine was still there Sunday morning and the company was still making arrangements to get it back on the rail and reopen the line.
