A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for all of South Jersey until 8 p.m. tonight.

A watch highlights the potential for severe thunderstorms.  If a storm becomes likely, a warning will be issued.

Damaging wind gusts to 60 miles-per-hour or greater is the primary severe threat.  Hail, frequent lightning, and heavy rain are also possible.

The most likely time frame for the storms is late this afternoon and early this evening, between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m.

Storms may weaken as they approach the shore, but can still pack a punch with heavy rain and strong winds if the weakening is slow.
