K9 officer Justin M. Cherry and Gunner

A recently released dash-cam video shows Tuckerton Patrolman Justin Cherry, seen above putting German shepherd Gunner into the back of a patrol car, setting a police dog on a 58-year-old woman during a traffic stop in 2014.

TUCKERTON — A recently released video shows the dash-cam footage of a police dog attacking a 58-year-old woman during a traffic stop in 2014.

Officer Justin M. Cherry, seen in the video, was accused of siccing the dog on the woman. Charges against him were dropped last week, according to NJ.com.

Officials said the woman failed to stop her car when Cherry tried to pull her over in 2014.

Prosecutors said Cherry didn’t need to let the dog loose and that he lied about the incident on police forms.

Authorities dismissed the indictment against the 35-year-old police officer, after his lawyer argued prosecutors never told a grand jury the woman was never treated for dog bites.

Cherry’s attorney has filed documents indicating an intent to sue the Prosecutor’s Office for malicious prosecution.
