WILDWOOD – Workers prepping the 2800 block of Park Boulevard for road construction accidentally ruptured a gas line, starting a small fire Thursday morning.

Firefighters responded to the call at 7:30 a.m. and found a working fire in the construction area. Police officers were already in the process of evacuating nearby homes.

The department stretched a hose line while waiting for South Jersey Gas to respond. The fire was extinguished and the line was repaired.

No injuries were reported and residents were allowed back in their home in about an hour.
