GALLOWAY TOWNSHIP — A woman who died Monday night in a crash at Aloe Street and New Orleans Avenue fell in the street before she was hit by a vehicle, which also struck another woman, police say.
The woman who died was not identified, pending notification of next of kin. She was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a statement from police.
The second woman, Elizabeth Thompson, 27, of Egg Harbor City, was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center for serious but nonlife-threatening injuries, according to Patrolman Ron Gorneau.
Police responded at 5:46 p.m. to Aloe Street and New Orleans Avenue and found the two women had been hit by a car, according to the statement.
The driver of the vehicle, Lynn M. Stadtmueller, 33, of Egg Harbor City, was traveling east on Aloe near New Orleans Avenue, Gorneau said.
Thompson and the unidentified woman were walking in that area when the second woman fell in the roadway. Stadtmueller struck both women, Gorneau said.
No summonses were issued pending an investigation.
Egg Harbor City police, the Galloway Township Ambulance Squad and AtlantiCare paramedics assisted at the scene.
Gorneau, of the Galloway Township Traffic Safety Unit, is investigating the incident.
