ASCHER, EVELYN 94 - of Egg Harbor Township, went to join her beloved husband, Sidney on April 6, 2014, following a short illness. Evelyn was born on October 14, 1919, the daughter of Abraham Solomon and Tillie Zeikowitz, who emigrated from Russia and Austria in the early 20th Century. Growing up in Brooklyn, she often looked after her younger sister Betty but still found time to be the neighborhood marble champ, beating all the boys. A chance meeting with the love of her life began with Sid's comment, "You're a cute kid... too bad you know it." Their time together was interrupted in 2007 when, also aged 94, he predeceased her a month shy of their 70th anniversary. A highly intelligent, talented writer and editor, Evelyn put most of her energies into her husband and two beautiful daughters, Sharon and Joan. Occasionally, Evelyn took a moment to scribble a witty verse or wry, alternative lyrics. Other creative outlets were knitting sweaters annually for each of her seven grandchildren and teaching her granddaughter counted cross stitch. She supported her extreme reading habit with frequent visits to libraries and bookstores along the East Coast. Those missing Evelyn include Sharon Shoemaker, Joan & Michael Ketschek; Evelyn's grandchildren & their spouses, Jon & MaryAnn Blummer, Richard Blummer & Roger Dupont, April French & Paul Gunson, Bill Shoemaker, Patrick Anastasi & Julie Durling, Bob & Kim Shoemaker, Thomas Shoemaker (who predeceased her); and her great-grandchildren, Aschley Anastasi, Ilana Gunson, Bobbi-Ann & Shain Shoemaker. The family is holding a private memorial service to celebrate our time with Evelyn. Donations may be made in her name to the Boys' & Girls' Club of Atlantic City.
