Asselta, James "Jim", - 74, of Vineland, passed away peacefully in his home having been cared for by his loving family on Saturday, March 18. Born June 18, 1942 in the Bronx, he was raised in Vineland and graduated from Vineland High School. He was a partner for over 20 years in the family owned Asselta Farms of Minotola where alongside his father and brother managed Asselta Farms taking his product from seedling to market and routinely found at the front of the line at the Vineland Produce Auction showing and selling over 50 varieties of produce. During this time he was an avid hunter and bowling enthusiast. His children, Jane and Jim, recall his love for puzzle making, kite flying and caring for his roses, figs and tomatoes. With the arrival of casino gaming in Atlantic City he started a new career working at the Claridge, the Sands and for over 20 years at the Tropicana. He enjoyed his work, the camaraderie of his colleagues, and the many friendships he made with his players to whom he proudly would give away his homemade wine and jarred tomatoes. He was a member of the New Jersey Farm Bureau, the New Italy American Society and Harmony Gun Club and attended services at Saint Isidore the Farmer Church. He is predeceased by his parents Madeline (Ferrari) and Jim Asselta and survived by his children Jane Asselta (John McCarvill) and Jim Asselta (Susan Brown); their mother Marlene (Zanni) Asselta; his brother Dennis (Annie), nephews Dennis and Michael Asselta; grandson Jimmy and many cousins. He spent many happy years with his loving girlfriend Patricia Piazza. A church visitation will be held on Thursday from 8:45am to 10:45am followed by a funeral mass at 11am from Christ The Good Shepherd Parish - Church Of Saint Isidore The Farmer, 1655 Magnolia Road, Vineland. Interment will follow in Our Lady Of Victories Cemetery, Landisville. During this sad time please find comfort from the promised future of reuniting with our loved ones here on earth at John 5:28,29 “all those in the memorial tombs will hear his [Jesus’] voice and come out”.
