GODFREY, JOHN PATRICK JR. "ICE CREAM JOHNNY" 71 - of Margate, went home to be with God on January 28, 2014. John grew up in Ventnor and graduated from Atlantic City High School in 1961. He then served in the Army for three years and had been stationed in Korea, for two years. He returned to Ventnor and worked as a bartender in Atlantic City for a few years, then moved to Seattle, WA, California, Colorado and Florida, returning to Ventnor in 1983, working as the custodian for the downbeach Post Offices until his retirement. He also sold ice cream on the beach for many years - affectionately known as "Ice Cream Johnny". John was predeceased by his parents, John and Alva Godfrey; his brother, Jim Godfrey; and brother-in-law, Tom Bordonaro. He is survived by a daughter, Jacklyn Chalmers; his two sisters, Pat Godfrey Johnston and Terry Godfrey Bordonaro; his sister-in-law, Sharon Godfrey; and numerous nieces and nephews and their families. Visitation will be held beginning at 10:30am followed by Funeral Mass at 11:00am on Tuesday, February 4th at Holy Trinity Parish: St. James Church, Ventnor. Interment will be private. Since John loved animals and rescued quite a few homeless cats and fed the feral cats that lived by Margate Terrace, we request that memorial donations be made to the Humane Society of Atlantic County, 1401 Absecon Blvd., Atlantic City, NJ 08401.
