McCALL, VERNA MARY (McPHERSON) 92 - of Atlantic City, passed away on March 22, 2014. She was the youngest of five girls born in Haleyville, NJ to the late Sylvester and Nina McPherson. Upon graduation from Port Norris High School in NJ, Verna joined the Women's Army Corp. She attended Eastern School for Physician's Aides in NYC, which led to her obtaining a degree as a Registered Nurse. Verna worked for Physical Measurements of Vineland, Atlantic City Hospital and lastly, Atlantic County Health Department as a Public Health Nurse, retiring from there after 18 years of service. Verna was involved with the Foreign Student Exchange Program of LaJolla, CA. She volunteered for Gilda's Club, RNS Heart and Cancer Fund - Show House at the Shore, Retired Seniors Volunteer Program as a peer leader in the Osteoporosis Exercise Program - Project Healthy Bones and was an active member of the Ventnor AARP. She was predeceased by her husband of 41 years, Lawrence E. McCall Sr.; and daughters, Judith and Kimberly. Verna's gracious spirit lives on through her devoted children, Lyle (Sondra), Jacqueline (Ronald), Bonnie Johnson (Leonard), Marc; and stepdaughter, Jean; as well as her grandchildren; and great-grandchildren whom were the loves of her life. Verna will be truly missed by a host of family, friends and all that came to know her. Services will be held at 11am on Saturday, March 29th at Hamilton Memorial United Methodist Church, 609 Arctic Ave. in Atlantic City. Burial will follow in Atlantic City Cemetery, Pleasantville. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests donations be made in her memory to the HMUM Church Building Fund. The family of Verna McCall entrusted her care, services, and burial to Adams-Perfect Funeral Homes (adams-perfect.com).
