Zakheim, Bernice, - of Margate, (nee: Kaven) died at home on Friday, March 17th, surrounded by her family. Born in Atlantic City, she lived the last 47 years in Margate where she raised her two daughters, Sandi and Andrea. Known as Bunny to many friends and family, Bernice was a sweet and gentle soul who was adored by many. She had a wicked sense of humor and loved to laugh until she crieda trait she passed on to her girls. Her passion for children, animals and politics were well known amongst those who knew her. While an only child, she grew up with many cousins who were like sisters and brothers to her. After marrying her husband Lenny, in 1963, she inherited a set of in-laws unlike any others. Her brothers-in-law and sister- in- law rallied around her after Lenny's death in 1974 and were instrumental in getting her through the worst time of her life. Bunny was a Sales Associate at Lerner Shops in Atlantic City until she became a mother. The home she raised her girls in was the "house on the block where all the kids played." She relished time with her family and friends and loved to be in her home surrounded by those closest to her. Back in the day, she was known for her summer backyard Bar-B-Q's. After her daughters were grown, she took care of her next set of babies; her 2 standard poodles Sam and Max. She felt completely blessed to be able to live with her 2 grandchildren from the day they come home from the hospital. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Leonard Zakheim; her 2 brothers-in law, Murray Zakheim and Harry Zakheim and many cousins on the Kaven side of the family; and finally her sister-in-law, Dorothy Bresky passed just 3 days prior to her passing. She is lovingly survived by; her daughter Sandra Zakheim-Nord (Jeff); her daughter Andrea Zakheim-Poetsch (Gary); grandchildren Zachary and Hillary; her beloved cousin Ruth Moses and many other cousins, nieces, nephews and adoring friends. Synagogue services will be held Tuesday 11am at Shirat Hayam (formerly Cong. Beth Judah), 700 N. Swarthmore Ave., Ventnor. Interment to follow at the Rodef Sholom Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions in her memory may be made to Shirat Hayam, the Atlantic County Humane Society, the American Cancer Society, or Holy Redeemer Hospice.
