I have mixed feelings over the recent resignation of Cumberland County Freeholder Louis Magazzu.

I've personally felt Magazzu was one of the worst freeholders the county has ever had. But I would have preferred to see him go down in an election rather than because of this alleged sex scandal.

In my view, those pictures of him that were posted on Carl Johnson's website dedicated to Magazzu should never have been made public.

Obviously, Magazzu has a serious personal or family problem that he needs counseling for, and for the sake of him and his family, I hope he gets it.

But Carl Johnson is no hero. I, for one, don't buy for one minute his "moral dilemma" about posting those pictures on his website. He publicly slanders people with an opposing point of view all the time on his websites and in his Inferno newspaper.

This sleaziness and character assassination through the media and the Internet is what drives people away from voting and getting involved in government and their communities. It needs to stop. There are too many "activists" out there today trying to force-feed their political ideologies down people's throats and not enough citizens making informed decisions at the voting booth.
