Regarding the opening of the Scores strip club inside Trump Taj Mahal Casino Resort:

When I think of a family destination, I certainly don't think of a place with a strip club nearby, and Gov. Chris Christie's endorsement of the strip club contradicts his attempts to make Atlantic City family-friendly.

Atlantic City cannot have its cake and eat it too. Either we want Atlantic City to be primarily for adults, or we want it to be for the whole family.

With the wholesome Miss America Pageant returning to Atlantic City, and the beach swarming with children and teens, there really isn't much room for an in-between.

While it is true that the casino strip club may not be anywhere near the pageant or the beaches, the two different crowds will eventually collide. After all, Atlantic City isn't that big.

But shockingly enough, Christie does not think the highly publicized venue will overshadow the family-friendly nature of the other attractions in the city.

And maybe it won't - if Mom is out shopping, the kids are on the Boardwalk, and Dad is at the strip club, although that will be a totally different notion of a family vacation.

Like many other local residents, I sincerely appreciate Christie's recent efforts to make Atlantic City family-friendly.

It is delightful to see the revamped Steel Pier amusement park and the free outdoor light shows on the facade of Boardwalk Hall. However, the city's new casino strip club will be ruthlessly polluting Atlantic City's family-friendly ambience with the foul smell of mature adult fun.
