Regarding the Dec. 3 editorial, "Post-Sandy recovery/Now the ironies":
I was surprised by this editorial. We are an extremely divided country at the moment, and there is more spirited allegiance to political parties than to our country, and that goes for our state as well.
Gov. Chris Christie is a Republican and an outspoken conservative. The fact that he also showed respect for the president of the United States and sought his assistance and that of our federal government during the storm crisis does not change that. It also does not exemplify nor imply any irony.
Assistance in times of disaster is a proper role for the federal government. Setting aside political differences to address the needs of the state or country is part of being a normal American statesman.
The only irony I see is that the editorial board of The Press has decided to support the divisive party pandering and to discredit our governor for doing his job.
Would you have preferred he told the president to get lost and take his federal assistance with him?
