Regarding the Sept. 22 "Belleplain Fall Century Ride" sponsored by the Shore Cycling Club:

In the announcement advertising this bike ride, there was to be a rest stop at the East Point Lighthouse on Lighthouse Road in Heislerville. But the refreshment van for this event was located near the public parking area at the corner of East Point Road and Bay Avenue. Approximately 100 cyclists came to this location, where there was no portable toilet.

So many of the bikers chose to trespass on our neighbor's property and urinate next to his shed. As the house is built on pilings, some riders chose to urinate under the house. Still others trespassed through the yard to relieve themselves on the shore of the Delaware Bay.

Totally, absolutely, disgusting.

We told the people manning the refreshment van for previous Shore Cycle Club rides that allowing the bikers to urinate wherever they want is not acceptable, and still it happened again. Are we wrong to expect a certain level of decency from these visitors to our neighborhood?

Where were the organizers/sponsors of this event? Why weren't there signs directing the riders to the portable toilet on Lighthouse Road? Why did they allow these bikers to trespass and urinate on private property?

Total disrespect was shown by these "adult," mostly male, riders.
