Osprey Banding

An osprey chick sits low in the nest as a defensive maneuver when the parents chirp out danger. Immature osprey have orange eyes and turn yellow as they get older. Hans Toft, natural science teacher at Cape May County Technical High School, and a volunteer group of his students, ventured into the back-bay marshes between the high school and Stone Harbor, to count and band nested osprey chicks as part of the state's bird banding program. Monday July 6, 2009. (Dale Gerhard/Press of Atlantic City)
