Former federal prosecutor and Democratic candidate for Congress in the 2nd Congressional District Bill Hughes announced endorsements by several area Democrats Tuesday.

He received the backing of state Sen. Jim Whelan, Assemblyman Vincent Mazzeo and Freeholders Colin Bell and Ernest Coursey at the Freeholder Office Building in Northfield.

Hughes wants to challenge Republican incumbent Frank LoBiondo in November. David Cole, a 28-year-old former Barack Obama staffer and tech industry executive from Mantua Township, Gloucester County, is also seeking the Democratic nomination.
