VINELAND – U.S. Rep. Frank LoBiondo has won another two-year term representing most of South Jersey in congress.

The Associated Press called the district Tuesday night for the nine-term incumbent LoBiondo, beating his Democratic challenger Cassandra Shober.

With 522 of 522 precincts reporting, LoBiondo received 154,736 votes (58 percent) to Shober's 107,201 (40 percent).

“I’m going to keep my sleeves rolled up and think of you first,” LoBiondo told supporters who gathered at the Vineland Ramada Inn, cheering as they learned he won. “I will never try to force Washington ideas on you, but rather bring good South Jersey views and opinions back to Washington.”

At the same time, LoBiondo asked supporters to keep the people who were affected by Hurricane Sandy in their prayers. The storm ravaged his coastal district along the Delaware Bay and from Cape May to Long Beach Island. “There is some terrible suffering going on” LoBiondo said.

Hurricane Sandy has hit close to home: both LoBiondo and Shober live in Ventnor and essentially suspended their campaigns after they were forced from their homes.

Shober, 45, could not immediately be reached by phone Tuesday night.
