The Absegami High School boys soccer team continued to make its case as the best in the program's history Thursday.
Senior Sean Milligan scored twice as the top-seeded Braves beat Cherry Hill East 2-1 in overtime of a South Jersey Group IV semifinal.
"It was the craziest game that we have every played in our lives," Milligan said. "It feels great. At the end of the game I was in tears. All the hard work growing up over the years had paid off."
Cherry Hill East, the No. 1 team in The Press Elite 11, was the No. 13 seed.
Absegami (19-2-1) will host second-seeded Washington Township, No. 3 in The Press Elite 11, on Monday looking for the school's first-ever South Jersey Group IV championship.
The Braves lost in the South Jersey Group III title game in 1981.
"We're so excited," said Milligan, who has scored four of the team's five playoff goals and has 22 on the season. "We worked so hard for this."
After Absegami's back-to-back shutouts to open the playoffs, a team finally figured out how to put one past goalie Matt McCormick as the Braves trailed for the first time this postseason.
The game stayed that way until Payne Vazquez found Milligan with a ball over the defense with 10 minutes left in the match.
Milligan was taken down from behind and awarded a penalty kick.
He took advantage and buried the kick to tie the game and force overtime.
Absegami's Andy Kupp was taken down just outside the box with less than three minutes left in the first of two 10-minute overtime periods. Milligan set up to take the free kick and saw the Cherry Hill East keeper on the right post trying to set up a wall.
Milligan quickly placed the ball and hit a shot over the wall to the lower left corner for the game-winner.
"I just saw an opportunity to try and be cool on the ball and it went in," Milligan said.
