Margate beat host Ventnor 7-6 on Tuesday to clinch their Atlantic County Baseball League semifinal series two games to none.
Ross Costello hit a RBI double to score Doug Hiltner with the winning run in the top of the seventh inning. Hiltner singled to lead off the inning.
Margate will open the best-of-five ACBL championship series at 7 p.m. Monday in Margate.
Costello, Pat Goodwin and Eric Fitzgerald had three hits for Margate (26-2), and Steve Normaine added two hits.
Jared Lenko (8-1) was the winning pitcher, going the distance, allowing five hits, with three walks and 11 strikeouts.
Margate went up 1-0 in the second inning as Pat Goodwin singled in Costello. Margate got RBI singles in the third inning by Normaine and Dan Coia to go up 3-0.
Ventnor scored four runs in the bottom of the third inning to go up 4-3.
Two singles and a walk loaded the bases for Ventnor, and two Margate errors brought in four runs.
Margate's Dave Housel scored on a fielder's choice in the top of the fourth to tie it at 4-4.
Ventnor loaded the bases on three straight bunt singles in the bottom of the fourth, and Junior Mejia hit a sacrifice fly to Ventnor up 5-4.
Margate went back up 6-5 as Costello singled and Goodwin hit a two-run homer.
Ventnor tied in the bottom of the fifth inning as John Brocious hit a solo homer.
Absecon 6, Hammonton 5: Absecon took a 6-3 lead and held on to win at Hammonton Lake Park. E.J. Stotzfus was the winning pitcher, going five innnigs of relief with three strikeouts.
The third and deciding game in the semifinal series is 7 p.m. today in Absecon.
Kevin Cicali was 2-for-5 with three RBIs for Absecon (22-6), Anthony Cocuzza was 2-for-3 with two walks and two RBIs, C.J. Wollowitch was 1-for-2 with a seventh-inning RBI.
Manny Colon walked three times for Absecon and scored twice.
For Hammonton, Steve Struble was 2-for-2 with two walks and a two-run double in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Hammonton pitcher Trevor Rosenberg struck out seven in 6 innings.
