Martin Truex Jr., 29, from Stafford Township, is in his fourth full season as a driver in NASCAR's Sprint Cup series.

Last race: Started 24th and finished 22nd in the Sharpie 500 on Saturday at Bristol Motor Speedway in Bristol, Tenn.

Next race: Pep Boys Auto 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway in Hampton, Ga., on Sunday, Sept. 6 (7 p.m. ESPN). SPEED will show practice at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 6 and qualifying at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 6.

Point standings: Moved up one spot into 23th place with 2,314 points, 1,250 behind leader Tony Stewart and 631 points behind 12th-place Matt Kenseth.

Race review: By lap 35, Truex had moved all the way into the top 10 with his car that was the fastest during the first practice session last Friday. By lap 256, he moved into the top 5 and reached as high as second place.

He spent 420 of the 500 laps in the top 15 with an average running position of 10th place.

Truex dropped back to 14th after a pit stop on lap 420, and as he fought to work his way back up the No. 26 car of Jamie McMurray made contact with Truex's left front fender, forcing the No. 1 car to the pits. He came out in 22nd place, where he finished.
