Girls volleyball: Southern Regional sweeps Dickinson in Group IV opener

The Southern Regional High School girls volleyball team, the defending Group IV state champion and the No. 3 seed in the Group IV tournament, defeated Dickinson High School (Jersey City) 2-0 (25-3, 25-8) on Tuesday in Manahawkin.

Avery Hodgson had nine kills, one block and one ace for the Rams. Chelsea Post added five kills and two aces. Ganine Kaiser had 16 assists and Taran Volta had seven digs and three aces.

Southern is 37-3 and will play the winner of the Clifton-Bayonne match at home on Friday at 5 p.m.

(20) Absegami 2,

(13) Memorial 0

The Braves won 25-17 and 25-15.

For Absegami, Christina Monroe had 14 kills and four blocks, Laura Harris had seven kills and Sarah Street had 21 assists.

The Braves (17-6) advance to face fourth-seeded Livingston on Friday.

Group II

(15) Barnegat 2,

(18) Cliffside Park 1

Barnegat won the first game 25-17, lost the second 22-25 and then won the third 25-20.

Barnegat's Brittany Elsasser had 22 assists, seven digs, seven service points, four aces and one kill. Aleecia Moss had three kills, seven digs, four aces, two assists and seven service points.

Courtney Blanchard and Breannae Scharpnick each had eight kills.

The Bengals (17-10) plays at second-seeded Caldwell on Friday.

(9) River Dell 2,

(24) Pleasantville 0

Game scores were 25-6 and 25-7. Kate Brock had three assists and three kills for River Dell (15-7)

Pleasantville dropped to 10-11.
