There are just four more days after today to catch a a fish for the Atlantic County/Atlantic City Surf Fishing Derby. The six-week fall classic wraps Sunday.
The fifth week finished last Sunday with several 30-pound plus striped bass entered. John Fox of Phildelphia picked a 43.63-pound bass from the Brigantine beach for the heaviest of the bunch.
Chris Rotondi of Marlton got one that weighed 38 pounds, Vinnie DiBartolo of Egg Harbor had a 35.5 pounder, Fred Shimmin of Galloway Township 32.8, Luke McCooley of Galloway Township 30.13, Thomas Leehan of Brigantine, 18.75 and Mario Vespertino of Marmora, 15 pounds.
Leehan also caught the heaviest bluefish of the week with a 10.75 pounder. McCooley also had a 10 pound blue. Scott Weiler of Ventnor bagged a 9-pound blue.
There were no weakfish, tautog or kingfish taken during the fifth week.
The New Jersey Marine Fisheries Council meeting scheduled for Thursday has been switched to Monday at the Atlantic County Public Library in Galloway Township, according to council member Ed Goldman.
