November is here and so are bigger striped bass. There are suddenly a lot of 30- to 40-pound stripers throughout the area. They are popping up in the surf of Long Beach Island and Brigantine and off Cape May at The Rips and in Delaware Bay.
The heavyweight so far in the fall run is a 57 1/4-pounder by Bill Palmer of Cape May. That one was caught in Delaware Bay and is the largest bass weighed this fall at Jim's Bait and Tackle in Cape May.
A 46-pound bass won the Maynard's Cafe Jimmy Stewart Memorial Striper Tournament held Saturday. It was caught by Bill Troehler in Townsend Inlet on the Nora Jane with captain Rich Martin. That is the heaviest bass in the 15-year history of a contest headquartered in Margate.
John Fox beached a 43-10 bass Sunday in front of the Brigantine Hotel. It takes the lead in the Riptide Bait and Tackle striper tournament. Scott Robbins got a 40-3 striper also from the Brigantine beach Sunday.
